On motherhood and "niching down"
As entrepreneurs, the value of niching down is often preached as a necessity for success. While it really does make sense, I have to admit that that is something I have struggled with. I love it all, my friends! There is beauty everywhere. There is joy to be found in all forms of connection, and I just haven't been able to say "Hi, I'm a family photographer" or "I'm an intimate wedding photographer" "newborn photographer" "interior design photographer" ....
Year three in business has brought some clarity. Right now I can say that I'm a "lifestyle portrait photographer." And as far as families go, I've learned I'd rather be in your home capturing the details of daddy making tea for your girls. I want to photograph you reading books to your kids. I want your face filled with unfiltered joy just soaking up your kiddos being wild and free in your yard. I want you baiting hooks and fishing on the dock. Chalk and bubbles on the sidewalk. The photos we value most after the test of time are a reflection of how life really was and what you felt in that moment.
Smell your baby's hair.
Close your eyes and remember their sweet little gummy chin.
Look deep into their perfectly freckled faces and watch them light up!
Hold your partner and marvel at this tiiiiny corner of the world you created together.
PHEW. (I'm an empath, can you tell? 😅)
so this past May I decided that it was important to me to host a "proof of mom" day, mini sessions if you will, focusing on beautiful messy reality and delivering bite sized galleries that stir up feelings. We met in one of my favorite quiet escapes from the photography spectator sport areas in DC- Roosevelt Island. This spot is perfect for nature lovers who want the charm of cobblestone, evergreen backgrounds, and some of that recognizable marble structure (benches, fountains, ornate staircases, and Teddy himself!) that we know and love in the DMV.
Enjoy some of the sweet moments we snagged that day,
Paige
